Larry Kalke, DMD

Dr. Kalke grew up in Southern Utah.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah, and attended dental school at CASE Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.  After completing an Advance Education in General Dentistry at CASE, he decided that helping children was where his passion was and chose to specialize in pediatric dentistry.

He completed his specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Ohio, where he learned to provide comprehensive dental care for well children and those with special needs including emergency care, procedures in dental office using conscious sedation, and treatment in the operating room and office under general anesthesia.  Dr. Kalke is Board Certified in Pediatric Dentistry. He also enjoys spending time at CE courses keeping up-to-date with the current technologies that are available.

For children requiring their treatment in the hospital, Dr. Kalke has privileges at The College Station Medical Center (The MED), and at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan.

Brian Barras, DDS, MS

Originally from Arlington, Texas, Dr. Barras moved back to the area where he started his Aggie journey. Dr. Barras graduated with honors from Texas A&M University in 2004 with a degree in biomedical science. He also studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain.

After graduating, Dr. Barras worked for two years as a scientist for Lockheed Martin Space Operations at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. There he assisted with astronaut and cosmonaut training. In 2007, Dr. Barras fulfilled his passion for serving in the healthcare profession and enrolled at Baylor College of Dentistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 2011 and began his residency program in pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Barras is Board Certified in Pediatric Dentistry. He completed his pediatric dental training at Children’s Medical Center Dallas and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital where he worked with many children who had special health care needs. Dr. Barras trained extensively in various behavior management techniques, including oral sedation and dental care in the operating room under general anesthesia. He is committed to providing high quality oral health care to all children, regardless of their physical, emotional, or intellectual conditions.

He currently has hospital privileges at St. Joseph’s Hospital and College Station Medical Center.

Dr. Barras married his Aggie wife, Courtney, in College Station in 2006. They have three wonderful children; Hannah, Andrew, and Mary. Dr. Barras and his wife enjoy traveling, exercising as a family, and volunteering at their church. Dr. Barras also fulfills his interest in music through playing the saxophone and piano.

Toby Merriman, DMD

Dr. Merriman (aka Dr. Toby) was born in Lufkin, Texas and grew up in Alaska. After practicing pediatric dentistry for the past 19 years in Meridian, Idaho, he is excited to bring his family to the state of Texas. Dr. Merriman graduated from Willamette University in 1993 with a degree in biology and attended Oregon Health Sciences School o f Dentistry class of 2000, where he graduate with honors. Through a volunteer program with the Northwest Medical Teams, Dr. Merriman discovered the world of pediatric dentistry and because of his experience decided to become a pediatric dental specialist. In 2002, Dr. Merriman completed his pediatric specialty training at the Children’s Mercy Hospital/ University of Missouri-Kansas City and in went on to become a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist in 2008. He enjoys working with kids and strives to utilize his education and knowledge to make their dental experience positive and rewarding.

Dr. Merriman and his wife, Alesha, are the proud parents of triplets. They have two boys and a girl who keep them extremely busy. They enjoy spending time together and are constantly looking for new and exciting adventures to do as a family. When not spending time with his family, Dr. Merriman, likes to help his dad with his cow herd.

Matthew Ng, DMD, MSD

Dr. Ng was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Central Canada. He attended the University of Manitoba where he earned a Degree in Microbiology with Distinction in 1998. Upon graduation, he immediately started his dental education at the same institution. He completed dental school in 2002 near the top of his class, where he was presented with several awards for his academic achievements. Fueled by his desire to become an orthodontist, Dr. Ng was fortunate to be accepted into one of the oldest and most prestigious orthodontic residency programs in the country at Saint Louis, Missouri. While in residency, he fulfilled the requirements for his Master’s Degree by studying different facial measurements for optimal profile esthetics.

Upon completion of orthodontic residency in 2004, Dr. Ng returned to Canada to enter practice with the largest pediatric dental group in Vancouver, Canada. There he learned the unique orthodontic skills necessary to properly manage developing bite problems in kids as young as age 4. In 2008, he made the move to Texas, where he has been in practice in Houston and its surrounding areas.

Dr. Ng is a Board-Certified orthodontist in both Canada and USA. He is a Past-President of the Texas Association of Orthodontists and is still actively involved in the profession as a Board Member on the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists and College of Diplomates of the American Board Orthodontics. For continuing education, he is a proud member of the Angle Society, which less than 6% of America orthodontists hold current membership. Dr. Ng lectures at several orthodontic residency programs across the country and is invited to speak around the world on a variety of different clinical topics on behalf of American Orthodontics and uLab Systems, where he serves as a Key Opinion Leader for both companies.

Dr. Ng is married to his Aggie wife, Theresa, and they have three beautiful children, Andrew, Noah, and Ava. He is actively involved in his Church and his hobbies include exploring culinary adventures, Astros Baseball and Aggie Football of course! “College Station is a place I have grown to love through my wife as a visitor for many years. I am excited to join the Brazos Valley Pediatric Dentistry family and look forward to serving the people of Brazos County and surrounding communities.”
